80% of murder victims know their killers and 16% are related to them. 50% of these victims die from conflicts over property, insults, or long-running feuds. 12,000 people are murdered in the US in a given year, about 10,000 know their killer. Most suspect they are in danger. Often the police won’t help the victim because no crime has been committed.
